Megan: Pornographers and Cartographers Beware (or, you know, as you were) 11 hours ago

China is cracking down on "pornographers" and "cartographers" and it seems all too familiar:

Web portals facing tighter supervision
MII to clean up search engines
Sohu's Sogou, Google suspected of revealing state secrets

Sure I’d like my Internet with a few less naked people, but I’d also like my content with a lot more variety. Orders to clean up and stay out, though somewhat laughable when aimed at Olympic/Expo sponsors and British school boys, are themselves barriers against media free to carry the voices of regular people -- especially when user-generated content is at stake.

When it comes down to it, I’d pick a slew of unofficial maps and pathetic snapshots to a sea of bleached, state-approved smiles.
