A Chinese Facebook

Posted on Dec 12 | 09:12

Facebook is an "online directory that connects people through social networks at schools." It seems to be pretty popular with the college crowd and claims to be one of the top ten most visited sites on the Internet.

It seems that Facebook has launched a Chinese version of the site at www.xiaonei.com The site template is identical to Facebook and Xiaonei ("On campus") seems to be offering the same services as Facebook - though I never heard about a launch of Facebook in China. Anyone have any details about a Chinese launch of Facebook?

Currently Xiaonei is only open to Tsinghua University, Beijing University and People's University of China students.

Not sure how Facebook, or Xiaonei, will fare in China. There are many sites competing in this space and many have reportedly received venture capital funding recently. And the Facebook has a really stripped down feel, not your typical Chinese social networking site.
