Netease's (Nasdaq: NTES) search site Yodao.com is replacing Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) as the preferred search engine for pornography, Techweb reports. In Pacific Epoch's tests, Baidu blocks certain search keywords for picture search, while Yodao has no limitation. Searches for unregulated keywords return similar amounts of results on both Baidu and Yodao, but Baidu picture search does not return any results for restricted keywords.
Baidu need not fret over its losing market share. The search engine is still recognized for its picture search dominance where it counts - in courts. A lawyer representing Chinese model Tang Jiali and music download website 5Fad.com has sent a letter to Baidu asking the search engine to delete links to Tang's online photos, according to Donews. 5Fad has the exclusive online rights to Tang's photos, but her pictures can be found using both Baidu and Google picture search. 5Fad chose to take legal action against Baidu but it has no intention of suing Google as Google's image search only returns thumbnails while Baidu's search results return full-sized photos. 5Fad also sued Baidu for mp3 copyright infringement on July 17.
