Mozilla China hopes to increase Chinese market share of Mozilla's web browser Firefox from 10 percent to 30-50 percent in order to bring its global market share up to 30 percent in 2008, reports Sina quoting Mozilla China (Beijing Mouzhi Network Technologies Ltd.) chairman and CEO Gong Li. Gong said Mozilla China will increase market share by developing localized plug-ins and increasing its university and company partnerships. Mozilla China plans to partner with Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Nankai University to promote Firefox. The company also hopes to work with local Chinese companies like Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU). Firefox currently covers 20 percent of the global web browser market, according to the report.
