The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.91 percent to close at 5,435.8 on Wednesday, while the Shenzhen Composite Index increased 2.26 percent to close at 1,539.6. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached 139.4 billion Yuan and 70.2 billion Yuan, respectively.
Shares of Air China (601111.SH; 0753.HK) rose 0.71 percent to close at RMB28.46 and shares of China Eastern Airlines (600115.SH; 0670.HK; NYSE:CEA) fell 1.75 percent to close at RMB20.27 on Wednesday on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, after the China Eastern Airlines' deal with Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA) and Temasek Holdings was rejected by 77 percent of China Eastern Airlines' minority investors at a shareholder meeting on January 8. China Eastern Airlines chairman Li Fenghua said after the meeting that the company will continue to seek cooperation with SIA rather than cooperate with Air China, reports China Youth Daily.
