Government bodies regulating the online game industry have released new regulations regarding foreign online game companies operating in China, reports 163.com. Under the new regulation, the General Administration of Press and Publication will postpone the examination, approval and licensing of foreign company products if the companies are arbitrated or sued by Chinese online game companies. The GAPP will not continue consideration of the products until after the complaints have been resolved, according to the report.

According to GAPP vice director Kou Xiaowei, the government will continue to enforce the online game fatigue system that was implemented last July, reports Sina. The GAPP has already shutdown several online game operators for failing to adopt the system, said the report.

The next Internet target for the Chinese government may well be social networking service (SNS) sites. Shanghai Marriage Introduction Management Association vice president Wang Weiming said the ability of SNS sites to introduce people to their future mates have given the organization cause to issue new standards for online SNS services in 2009, reports Southern Metropolitan News. China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) previously announced plans to regulate online audio and video programs in 2008, while five Chinese ministries came together to announce a crackdown on the unauthorized online sale of lottery tickets in November, 2007.
