China's Ministry of Railways made an emergency announcement on Monday asking all local railway authorities to help with coal transport to key electric power plants, reports CCTV. The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) issued its highest alert on Monday, warning of severe snowstorms in central and eastern China. The snow, the worst in decades in many areas, has hit most parts of China since January 12, putting a strain on rail lines.
Shares of China's largest coal mining company China Shenhua Energy (601088.SH; 1088.HK) and Shandong-based Yanzhou Coal Mining Company Limited (600188.SH) rose 0.45 percent and 0.32 percent on an off-day on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Monday.
