The Shanghai Composite Index slumped 1.55 percent to close at 4,600 on Tuesday, while the Shenzhen Composite Index increased 0.08 percent to close at 1,376.9. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached RMB93.4 billion and RMB40.2 billion, respectively.
China's largest oil and gas producer PetroChina (601857.SH; 0857.HK; NYSE: PTR) unlocked one billion A-shares on Tuesday for public trading in Shanghai. Shares of PetroChina plunged 6.37 percent in Shanghai to close at RMB24.71, after Monday's spike of 8.07 percent.
