The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 0.87 percent on Thursday to close at 4,527.2, while the Shenzhen Composite Index increased 0.44 percent to close at 1,423.2. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached RMB100.3 billion and RMB51.5 billion, respectively.
Shares of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (600019.SH) and Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (600005.SH) rose 4.07 percent and 3.15 percent, respectively, on Thursday in Shanghai. Baoshan Iron & Steel plans to raise its steel prices before the end of February after iron ore prices in China for 2008 were raised 65 percent, reports the Beijng News.
