The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) listed Shanghai-based video site Tudou.com as one of 35 "slightly unhealthy" online video sites after two months of industry-wide inspections on March 20, according to a SARFT announcement. Tudou and the other 34 sites have been warned, while another 25 "extremely unhealthy" sites were shut down by government regulators. Five sites found to be lacking operational licenses were transferred to the state telecom monitoring department until further notice.
Users of Tudou.com have noticed an uploading slowdown since Tudou shutdown its site for a full day on March 14, reports 21st Century Business Herald. According to users quoted in the report, the entire process from video uploading to publishing now takes about 24 hours. After the temporary closure, Tudou recommenced user-generated content uploading on March 17. Filters at Tudou.com competitor Youku.com can publish videos within half an hour after uploading, according to Youku CEO Victor Koo.
