Beijing-based entertainment producer Enlight Media learned ten days ago that it has been approved for an online video license, reports Oriental Morning Post quoting Enlight Media president Wang Changtian. According to an unnamed insider, Shanghai Media Group (SMG) subsidiary Smgbb.cn and Shanghai ViewToo Broadband Technology (51tv.net), have also been approved for the license. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) may release the first list of licensed video sites on April 1, said the insider.
SARFT is expected to withhold first round online video licenses to video sharing sites including Tudou, Youku and 56.com in favor of private sites Joy.cn and 51tv.net which focus on licensed content, reports China Business News quoting an unnamed insider. Youku president Victor Koo said Youku is unlikely to receive a license in the first round, but has a shot at getting authorized in the future, reports qq.com.
