China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) subsidiary Beijing Mobile released approximately 15,000 TD-SCDMA accounts on April 1, reports Sina. According to a Beijing Mobile customer service associate, most of the accounts are reserved for special users and will not be released to the public.
A consumer surnamed Wu told the Beijing Evening News that the most expensive 3G handset he found for sale on April 1 was a ZTE (000063.SZ, 0763.HK) model selling for less than RMB 2,000. More consumers were interested in finding out about 3G service than actually purchasing handsets, said the report. Reports from Shanghai said TD-SCDMA users were having difficulty with video phone services.
