Chinese telecom equipment provider ZTE's (000063.SZ, 0763.HK) U980 model handset accounts for one-third of all TD-SCDMA handsets sold by China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK), reports China Business News quoting a ZTE employee. According to the employee, the Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) has granted licenses to more than 30 TD-SCDMA model handsets.
China Mobile intends to partner with an international handset maker to provide 15,000 TD-SCDMA handsets and UIM cards for free to The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of The XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), reports China Business News quoting China Mobile CEO Wang Jianzhou from the Boao Forum For Asia on Saturday. China Mobile released 60,000 TD-SCDMA numbers on April 1, said the report.
