China has a reserve of more than 50 million handsets, reports 163.com quoting an electronics company marketing executive on April 15. The insider said the unsold stock has caused a big loss for the industry and, regardless of reduction measures, will only be increased by the release of new phones. According to the report, the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) issued 240 million handset licenses in 2007 while sales reached 220 million units including approximately 40 million phones sold on the black market, said the report.
