Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei president Ren Zhengfei has sent a letter to Huawei employees encouraging them to be happy, reports National Business Daily. In the letter, Ren expresses his concern over frequent suicide and increasing depression among company employees, said the report. Employee reactions towards the letter were generally positive, said the report, which mitigated the statement by saying Huawei directed its employees on how to answer any questions regarding the letter, according to a company insider.
In order to explain the pressure Huawei employees are under, one staffer described the company's "mattress culture" wherein employees keep mattresses to sleep off their overtime hours. The worker said the beds were necessary to speed up projects and maintain a competitive edge.
