A-shares Reach For Parachute After More Airline Troubles

The Shanghai Composite Index decreased 3.97 percent to close at 3,094.67 on April 18, while the Shenzhen Composite Index fell 4.22 percent to close at 930.63. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached RMB 54.58 billion and RMB 23.93 billion, respectively.
Shares of China Eastern Airlines (600115.SH, 0670.HK, NYSE: CEA) fell 9.95 percent on Friday after the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) pulled two of China Eastern subsidiary Yunnan Airlines' routes and ordered China Eastern to pay RMB1.5 million in compensation in relation to "pilots' ill attention to passengers' rights." Eleven China Eastern pilots have been taken off duty for investigation of the incident that involved the unscheduled return of 21 Yunnan Airline flights between March 31 and April 1.
Shares of Southern Airlines (600029.SH, NYSE: ZNH) and Air China Ltd. (601111.SH) fell 9.83 percent and 9.99 percent, respectively, on Friday.
