China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) announced 2008 first quarter results on Monday. The company recorded RMB 93.02 billion in revenue in the first quarter, up 19.7 percent compared with the first quarter of 2007, while profit hit RMB 24.102 billion, up 37.2 percent year-on-year. China Mobile added 7.783 million new users in March, bringing its total number of users through the end of March to 392.137 million.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA, 0728.HK) first quarter operating revenue was RMB 43.65 billion, up 1.6 percent year-on-year, while profit to equity holders was RMB 6.25 billion, up 0.5 percent from 2006, according to the company's quarterly report. China Telecom lost 3.16 million fixed-line users in the quarter, including a decrease of 920,000 users in March, to record 217.17 million subscribers by the end of March. The company added 2.06 million broadband users, with 730,000 new users signed up in March, to reach 37.71 million broadband subscribers for the quarter.
China Netcom (NYSE: CN, 906.HK) also released company statistics for the first quarter of 2008 on Monday. During the quarter, the company recorded RMB 20.49 billion in revenue including upfront connection fees of RMB 270 million. Excluding upfront fees, revenue was up 0.85 percent year-on-year. China Netcom lost 1.719 million fixed-line users in the quarter, including a decrease of 504,000 users in March, to record 109.101 million subscribers by the end of March. The company added 1.888 million broadband users, with 614,000 new users signed up in March, to reach 21.656 million broadband subscribers for the quarter.
