Nokia (NYSE: NOK) established its new China headquarters in Beijing's Zhuangyi Economic Development Zone on April 21, reports xinhuanet.com. The 70,000 square meter complex will be responsible for Nokia global market research and development.
Nokia is in close contact with China Mobile and intends to release more than one TD-SCDMA handset in China, reports China Business News. Nokia global vice president and Greater China sales executive Deng Yanyun confirmed that Nokia will release TD-SCDMA handsets in China. According to the report, Motorola (NYSE: MOT) is expected to submit its first dual-mode TD-SCDMA/GSM handset to China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) second round of TD-SCDMA bidding. China Mobile purchased 60,000 TD-SCDMA handsets and 15,000 TD-SCDMA data cards in its first round TD-SCDMA bidding this year.
According to TD-SCDMA alliance statistics, China had approved 11 TD-SCDMA handset and four TD-SCDMA data card models by the end of March. Twenty handset manufactures were awaiting approval during the same period. Six handset and two data card models entered TD-SCDMA trials on April 1.
