Shanghai-based user-generated video site Tudou.com is claiming that online video statistics released by iResearch in March may have been sponsored by one of Tudou's competitors, reports Sohu quoting Tudou vice president Yang Danning. Yang said iResearch ignored the fact that Tudou is number one in terms of video site traffic and fundraising and failed to mention Tudou's experienced management team or ask Tudou directly about its product advantages. The report in question lists Beijing-based video site Youku as number one in terms of traffic, capital, products and operation.
Youku CEO Victor Koo considers Tudou's dissatisfaction nothing more than the company's inability to admit development declines that began after the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) began cracking down on online video sites, according to another Sohu report. Koo reiterated the validity of iResearch statistics by noting that current Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) and AC Nielsen statistics also place Youku ahead of Tudou.
Tudou CEO Gary Wang said Tudou is focusing on solving copyright infringement problems this year and intends to cooperate with movie and TV companies, agents and individuals to adopt an advertisement-revenue-sharing strategy for video content. According to a Tudou source, the company currently offers 10-30 percent of advertising revenue to content owners.
