The Shanghai Composite Index increased 1.84 percent to close at 3,761 while the Shenzhen Composite Index increased 2.94 percent to close at 1,130 on Monday. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached RMB 147.567 billion and RMB 64.507 billion, respectively.
Shares of Chinese television makers TCL Group (000100.SZ), Hisense (600060.SH) and Changhong (600839.SH) rose 10.06 percent, 3.16 percent and 1.39 percent, respectively, to reach RMB 5.91, RMB 10.11 and RMB 7.24 on May 5.
Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. (600900.SH) dropped 0.57 percent to RMB 13.91 after releasing first quarter financials the day before markets closed for the May holiday. The company reported revenue of RMB 61.116 billion, down 4.97 percent year-on-year, and net profit of RMB 251.604 million, a 36.42 percent fall from the first quarter of 2007.
