China Unicom (NYSE: CHU, 762.HK, 600500.SH) and Guangzhou-based wireless value-added service provider Ewing Science and Technology are being sued by a Unicom subscriber surnamed Wang for sending SMS spam, reports Sina. Wang is suing for RMB 3,333 in the Beijing Xicheng District Court, said the report. Wang began to explain the severity of the case by saying he received several spam messages, including advertisements for red wine and Italian olive oil, while conducting business. According to the report, Wang has received a statement from the Ministry of Industry and Information (MII) ordering Unicom and Ewing to apologize for the commercial messages. Wang is the first handset user to sue over spam SMS in Beijing, said the report.
