China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) subsidiary Sichuan Mobile experienced power loss and transmission failure of more than 2,300 base stations as a result of the Wenchuan County earthquake on May 12, reports Sina. All of China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU, 762.HK, 600050.SH) GSM and CDMA networks in the area, 200 base stations, were cut off the same day. By May 13, 24,460 fixed-line and 6,724 broadband users of China Tietong's Sichuan and Shanxi subsidiaries had lost service, reports Sohu.
Beijing-based online video site 6rooms.com (6.cn) recorded one million views for its Sichuan earthquake content two hours after its release, approximately one hour after the disaster, at 3:30 PM on Monday. Before midnight, the content had been accessed by 3,200 peak concurrent users for a total of over 1.5 million views. Shanghai-based video site Tudou.com had recorded over 100,000 views for its earthquake clips by Monday evening. Views are currently growing at a rate of over 100 views per second, according to a company announcement.
