The Shanghai Composite Index dropped 1.84 percent to close at 3,560.243, while the Shenzhen Composite Index fell 2.06 percent to close at 1,109.90 on Tuesday. Trading volume on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges reached RMB 122.656 billion and RMB 64.99 billion, respectively.
Shares of Haitong Securities (600837.SH) and Citic Securities (600030.SH) decreased 7.42 percent and 4.46 percent, respectively, to close at RMB 51.75 and RMB 35.52.
Regardless of overall market declines, pharmaceutical shares rose sharply on earthquake devastation. Hisun Pharmaceutical (600267.SH), Wandong Medical Equipment (600055.SH) and Nanjing Medical Company (600713.SH) increased 10.01 percent, 10 percent and 9.99 percent, respectively, to close at RMB 23.96, RMB 13.75 and RMB 12.33 on Tuesday.
