Home Inns & Hotels Management Inc. (Nasdaq: HMIN) announced 2008 first quarter results after market close on Tuesday. Total revenue for the quarter was $50.9 million, up 95 percent year-on-year and 13.3 percent quarter-on-quarter. Net loss in the quarter was $7.17 million, inlcuding a $2.2 million loss from Top Star. Home Inns recorded net income of $0.4 million in the first quarter of 2007 and a net loss of $2.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2007.
Home Inns' occupancy rate was 81.4 percent in the first quarter, compared to 86 percent in the year-ago period and 88.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007. Revenue per available room dropped to RMB 140 in the quarter, compared to RMB 151 in the first quarter of 2007. Home Inns opened 33 new hotels during the first quarter, to reach a total of 299 opened hotels. Home Inns expects second quarter 2008 revenue to come in between $62.8 million and $65.7 million.
