Beijing-based online degree services provider ChinaEdu Corporation (Nasdaq: CEDU) reported results for the first quarter after market close on Wednesday. ChinaEdu's net revenue was up 23.8 percent year-on-year to $9.9 million, while net income jumped to $0.3 million from RMB 0.3 million last year.
During the three month period, the number of revenue students in ChinaEdu-partnered online degree programs increased 23 percent year-on-year to over 91,000 students. Revenue generated from online degree programs hit $7.8 million, up 37.1 percent from the year-ago period. Revenue from the company's non-online degree programs was down 9.3 percent year-on-year to $2.1 million. The company's non-online degree programs include international curriculum programs, private primary and secondary schools and online tutoring programs.
ChinaEdu expects revenue to come in between $10 million and $10.4 million for the second quarter.
