Tencent (0700.HK) is testing a Linux-compatible version of its instant messaging software QQ, and intends to release the new software in July, reports Beijing Business Today citing Tencent confirmation. Linux QQ fully supports computers installed with the Chinese Academy of Science's (CAS) "Loongson" chip, and is expected to be pre-installed on computers containing the CAS product, according to the report. China produces more than two million Linux pre-installed computers every year, said the report.
Tencent released the official version of QQ2008 on July 7. With the version's seven new functions, users can animate and customize display pictures and send image files to other users when they are offline.
