China added 53.451 million mobile phone users in the first six months of 2008 to reach 601 million handset users by the end of the June, reports 163.com quoting Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) data released on Tuesday. China lost 9.361 million fixed-line users to reach 356 million in the same period. Handset users sent out 344.13 billion SMS messages in the first six months of 2008 for a year-on-year increase of 23.3 percent. Revenue for the nation's telecom industry reached RMB 398.79 billion in the first half of 2008.
