Rumor: Netease In The Hunt For Hongkong.com
Saturday's edition of China Business Post raised the idea that Netease could be in the hunt for Hongkong.com, the Hong Kong listed subsidiary of Chinadotcom. The Business Post reports that the rumor began circulating after AOL unloaded its last tranche of Chinadotcom shares on September 25. No one knows who bought the shares (AOL owned 24.5% of Chinadotcom as recently as April 2003). One theory is that Netease has been buying into Chinadotcom but Hongkong.com is its real target.
