With 10 national licenses and numerous provincial licenses for Internet cafes awarded, the market for Internet café PCs is expected to be worth 10 billion Yuan in the coming year. Under the new licensing regime there will be at least three national Internet café license holders and at least three provincial license holders per province. Because of the new licensing regime and its inherent favor of Internet café franchises small PC vendors are expected be pushed out of the market due to their inability to serve larger customers. The new licenses are expected to force a massive number of Internet cafes to close while providing the catalyst for the opening of 3,600 new Internet cafes. The new Internet cafes are expected to need at least 200 PCs in order to turn a profit, consequently sales to Internet cafes are forecast to hit 720,000 units in the coming year.
