Dbtel Shanghai senior consultant Yang Binghu confirmed to the Beijing Times on December 23 that the company has altered its business and will not sell Dbtel-branded handsets in mainland China. Dbtel Shanghai, a mainland China subsidiary of Taiwanese handset maker Dbtel, will export handsets and serve as an OEM for other handset brands, said Yang. Yang said that Dbtel has cut its mainland subsidiaries from 27 to 15 companies and that Dbtel's staff has been cut from 10,000 at its peak to 2,000 employees. Home appliance retailer Suning (002024.SZ) marketing manager Li Jun said that Suning has not sold Dbtel handsets for a long time. Handset retailer Zoomflight's general manager Chen Hongyu said that Dbtel handset sales make up only a very small percentage of the company's total sales.
