Beijing Kicks Off E-Commerce License Law, No Run On Applications
The Beijing Municipal Industry and Commerce Administration implemented online store regulations requiring individual and corporate sellers to have business licenses for online operations on Friday, August 1, reports it.com.cn. Despite the official beginning, by July 31, no online store owners had applied for licensing, according to officials at the administration's Zhongguancun office.
A Taobao insider said Alibaba's consumer-to-consumer (C2C) e-commerce site Taobao.com is among the companies that has yet to make changes to fall in with new regulations. Previous reports said the law exempts individuals that sell or trade their personal items without a profit motive.
The State Administration of Taxation may begin collecting taxes from online store owners as early as 2009, reports qq.com quoting an unnamed insider.
