Rumor: China Mobile To Release Blackberries For World Telecom Day
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL, 941.HK) is expected to release or announce the official release date of Research In Motion's (RIM) Alcatel-BlackBerry handsets near May 17, reports dayoo.com quoting the Guangzhou manager of Gome (0493.HK) subsidiary Gome Communication Wang Shuming. Wang said China Mobile will not announce the release date before May 1, and that connectivity problems between China Mobile's network and the RIM platform have pushed back the release which was originally expected in December, 2007. Gome is an authorized distributor of Alcatel handsets including the Alcatel-Blackberry 8700 which has a list price of RMB 3,450, said the report citing Gome Communication data.
TCL Group (000100.SZ) subsidiary TCL Communications Technology Holdings (2618.HK) is currently planning new Blackberry products, according to TCL Communications CEO Liu Fei. TCL Communications delivered a shipment of Alcatel-BlackBerry 8700 handsets to China Mobile at the end of last year.
